Album:

'Fingertips' is Vera Blue's first album which was released on the 13th of May 2016. Vera first appeared on 'The Voice' in 2013 using her real name, Celia Pavey, which began her singing career. Vera has also featured in many popular songs outside of Australia such as 'Papercuts' and the 'My Boo' remix by Flume.

Background:

'Hold' is explained by Vera Blue - "I’ve always wanted to create something that’s a blend of folk and cool, heavy, thick sounds. This is the music I have been wanting to make and I feel like I’m unleashing.

This song is about finding someone who pulls you out of a dark place… It’s about when you’ve opened your heart so many times to people and you finally find that person who is there to protect you, to look after you, even when you’ve hurt them and they’ve hurt you. You never give up on them."

"I love the way you tie me down" The term "tie me down" is usually used in a negative sense, having someone or something holding you back. But in 'Hold', Vera likes being held down by her significant other, she likes being with them always.

 

"False words would never be allowed" Lies would never be present in their relationship, and they both know that.

"When I am yours, When we are home" No matter where Vera and her significant other are, they can always be at home as long as they are with each other. They are each others home.

"You loved the many faults you found" The significant other knows about Vera's faults, and instead of hating them or being angered by them, they love her faults.

 

"You kept what was worth keeping around" This has two meanings. The first is in a literal sense, the significant other kept the things that were important in the relationship and disregarded things that didn't affect the relationship in a significant way. This line could also be a jab at other lovers that the significant other had, leaving them for Vera, who was "worth keeping around"

 

"When I am yours, When we are home" No matter where Vera and her significant other are, they can always be at home as long as they are with each other. They are each others home.

"I tried to loosen off your hold, But you stayed and nothing made you fall" This line is a continuation of her previous lyric "You loved the many faults that you found", she tried to get away from this person because she didn't want to burden him with her issues, but he was resolute and stayed with her.

"I knew when you took me over, That you were not like the others" The "others" are the people in her previous relationship, her significant other is different than anyone else that she has been with.

"I can be young and reckless, But you stayed" No matter what mistakes she makes, the significant other stayed.
